I helped build Cavalry Ventures (now NAP) from the ground up – three fund generations, two opportunity funds, multiple SPVs. From first employee to partner.
In practice, that meant: building the investment team, co-owning hiring, shaping operational structures. Supporting the fundraise – especially with private investors and family offices as LPs. And alongside that, over 80 transactions on the deal side.
I don’t know VC as an observer. I learned it from the ground up: from fund strategy to term sheet, from LP relations to board seats.
In 2024, I saw the moment to work independently – under my own name, with my own methodology.
So I stopped evaluating founders – and started advising
them.
Stopped pitching LPs – and started listening to them.
Stopped seeing other GPs as competitors – and started
supporting them.
That’s how bjolo_ was born.
Principles
— “We add value” is not an answer. Value doesn’t come from showing up. It comes from concrete work – a qualified analysis, a deliberate process, an honest assessment no one else will voice. If you can’t name what you did, you didn’t do anything.
— Insider knowledge carries obligation. I was an active VC. I know how decisions are made and understand that there’s a gap between internal reality and external communication. That knowledge needs to be passed on.
— Independence as a given. VCs and founders have similar incentives, GPs and LPs too – but not always the same ones. I take 100% my client’s side. That was only partially possible as a fund partner. Today it’s the foundation.
